HOME BAKERS OFTEN GET STUCK ON THIS GOOEY INGREDIENT, BUT BAKING WITH FLUFF IS A BLAST! JUST READ ON FOR HINTS AND TIPS…
As a bakery dedicated to American-style goodies, we often use authentic ingredients that you'd be likely to find in an American supermarket.
One such ingredient that The Hummingbird Bakers are often asked about is Marshmallow Fluff.
Although Fluff is not all that familiar to most bakers, it is great for sandwiching Whoopie Pies, baking bars and topping cupcakes.
What is Marshmallow Fluff?
Marshmallow Fluff is a brand of American marshmallow creme. It comes in a jar or a tub and there are several flavours of Fluff on the market. Imagine the gooey centre of a marshmallow made into a light, spreadable creme and you’re not far off.
What can Marshmallow Fluff be used in?
A jar of this stuff will add gooey, delicious marshmallow middles to your Whoopie Pies and is essential for our recipe. If you’re feeling a little creative, you can use it as marshmallow filling for your cupcakes or whip some up to use as a tasty topping alternative to frosting.
Although it is edible straight from the tub, we recommend combining the Marshmallow Fluff with unsalted butter and icing sugar to make our Whoopie Pie filling.
Fluff can be very sticky when used on its own, so this makes the consistency easier to pipe and spread as frosting.
Where can I buy Marshmallow Fluff?
The good news is that Marshmallow Fluff is now available across the UK at several supermarkets. Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Asda, Morrisons, Tesco and Ocado are all listed as stockists.
Amazon UK and eBay UK also represent a number of online sellers who stock the product.
If you’re keen to stock up on a few more baking ingredients shipped straight from the USA, specialist American food shops can be found online or listed in local directories.
Can I make my own Marshmallow Fluff?
Recipes exist for homemade marshmallow creme but we recommend using branded Marshmallow Fluff to ensure your recipe tastes the best it can.
Does Marshmallow Fluff contain gelatine?
No, Marshmallow Fluff contains no gelatine. But as it contains egg white, it is not a vegan ingredient. Other brands are known to make vegan marshmallow creme. It is also kosher and halal.
Is Marshmallow Fluff gluten-free?
Yes, it contains no gluten.
How do I store my Marshmallow Fluff?
Store in a cool, dry place until you come to use your Marshmallow Fluff. Thanks to its high sugar content it keeps well, but once opened store unused Fluff in an airtight container and use within two months.
