Our sweet story
We are Hummingbird Bakery and we love baking cakes, bakes and desserts. With this pure, sweet sentiment, we founded our company and opened our first American-style bakery in Notting Hill, 2004. And so arrived the authentic taste of fresh, American home baking in London. We are delighted to help our guests celebrate and spoil themselves everyday! We offer an incredible range of American-style baked treats. Cupcakes, celebration cakes, brownies, pies, cheesecakes… or perhaps the Monthly Special? Honestly, we don’t think you can go wrong.
Such is the popularity of exceptional cake baked that very same day, we opened a further five stores across our dear capital: in South Kensington, Spitalfields, Victoria and St Johns Wood and Soho. We can’t wait to welcome you!
The Hummingbird Bakery has even gone international, with a franchise presence in the Middle East and two stores already open in Dubai. We’re thrilled that more and more customers around the world are sharing the joy in lovingly baked goods.
Baking with tradition
Since selling our very first cupcake at our Notting Hill store, we’ve become an iconic brand. We firmly believe our success is down to three simple things: freshly baked goods; high quality ingredients; and staying true to time-tested home baking techniques, just like our mothers taught us.
Our team of resident bakers only offer freshly baked cakes made that very same day… we’re sorry if that irresistible smell is distracting. We delight in serving classics alongside innovative creations and take huge pride in having helped cupcakes and Red Velvet cake rise in popularity here in the UK.
When it’s time for a celebration beyond the everyday indulgence, we also offer a stunning and delicious range of cakes and cupcakes for weddings, birthdays and events. Trust us to create a tantalising masterpiece and let’s get the party started!

While customers have loved visiting our stores for over two decades, many have also asked for the secrets to our irresistible bakes. We believe that sharing is caring and we’ve been delighted to release four bestselling cookbooks which reveal our favourite recipes and techniques: The Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook (2009), Cake Days (2011), Home Sweet Home (2013), Life is Sweet (2015) and The Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook revised and expanded edition (2017).
Customers have bought well in excess of 1.5 million copies of our books and they’ve been translated into several different languages. Chances are someone’s at home, lifting a freshly baked Hummingbird cake from the oven this very minute!
